Nev Shackleton is a Registered Psychologist (PSY0001956453) with the Psychology Board of Australia, Supervisor and Clinical Member (28184) of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
Nev spends most of his time at Deakin University as a Lecturer in the School of Psychology, working with the Counselling Post Graduate team, and provides Clincial Supervision to Counsellors and others working in Mental Health. Nev works in a limited capacity seeing private clients primarily via telehealth.
Nev's qualifications include a Masters Degree in Counselling, Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) and a Diploma of Counselling. Nev has also completed community services and other qualifications (Mental Health Cert IV), and in specific areas of mental health including clinical supervision, suicide intervention, eating disorders, trauma, loss and grief, relationship counselling, with research in the areas of trauma and academic self-efficacy.
Nev provides supervision in both individual and closed group format and provides counselling and focused psychological support to adults. Telehealth (videoconferencing) is provided securely when clinically appropriate only.Therapeutic strategies are informed by psychological and social science, sociology and other areas of mental health.
Nev approaches therapy in a reflective and culturally and diverse sensitive and considered manner. Assessment, diagnosis, prevention, intervention, and supportive counselling strategies are engaged alongside evidence based therapies including: Person Centred and Supportive Therapies, Interpersonal Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), CBT-E, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Gottman Level 2 trained, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Nev is a registered Medicare Better Access and Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) provider and works with plan managed NDIS participants.
